- All right, if youre using Google Sheets and you have list of items that have different dates in the future when theyre going to expire, maybe when theyre due, now were going to go over several different ways to highlight those to give you a visual illustration of whats coming up. So the first thing that well do, well come over to this food inventory and lets just say you want a general idea, all right? So this general idea is actually going to be relative and its going to give a gradual highlighting on these based on how old they are. So well go to Format and Conditional formatting and Ive actually already clicked that thats why thats up on the right over here and I will left click on Add another rule. And since Ive already selected the data that I want to highlight, it prefilled in this apply to range, right now, it defaults to formatting it if its not empty. All right, so thats why its all green because theres dates and everything. But first were going to go to

The EOMONTH function in Google Sheets returns the last day of the month corresponding to the supplied date. EOMONTH(A2,0) will return the last day of the month before A2. EOMONTH(A2,1) will return the last day of the month after A2.
Select Settings. In the Date/time formatting settings section of the Settings overlay, use the drop-downs to select your preferences. Use the Dates drop-down to set how dates appear.
Your spreadsheet is set to a locale that uses the mm/dd/yyyy date format, while your data is using the dd/mm/yyyy date format. That means that the dates where the day of the month is less than or equal to 12 will get converted to dates incorrectly, and the rest of the data will remain as text strings.
Default Google Sheets date format Select all cells youd like to format. Go to Format Number in the spreadsheet menu and pick Date to see the date only or Date time to get both date and time in a cell:
For example, DATE(119,2,1) will create a date of 2/1/2019. For years 1900 to 9999, Google Sheets will use that value as the year. For example, DATE(2019,1,2) will create a date of 1/2/2019. For years less than 0 or greater than 10,000, Google Sheets will return the #NUM!
Go to File - SpreadSheet Settings. Select the correct Locale. Then you try again to change the format. Hope this helps.
Select Format Number More Formats More Date and Time Formats. Select the format that you want for your column (for example, 8/5/1930) Click Apply.
Go to File - SpreadSheet Settings. Select the correct Locale. Then you try again to change the format. Hope this helps.
