You can remove yellow highlighter easily and not damage your book with this science hack. Using a cotton swab and some lemon juice, you now have yourself a magic eraser. Highlighters contain pyranine, a molecule thatamp;#39;s attracted to water and works as a fluorescent dye by absorbing ultraviolet light, while re-emitting the characteristic yellow colored lights on the visible spectrum. Pyranine also acts as a pH indicator, meaning itamp;#39;s capable of detecting the acidity or basicity of a solution. Lemon juice has natural citric acid, which falls on the acidic side of the pH scale. When it comes in contact with pyranine, it causes the molecule to lose the bond structure that enables it to absorb UV light, shifting that emitted light from yellow to outside of the visible color spectrum, essentially making it invisible while not damaging the ink of your text, making your once marked up book or note paper look almost like new again.
