Parenthetical Citations: The first time you reference a version of the Bible, in the in-text citations, give the name of the edition (italicized), followed by a comma and the abbreviated book (see back of handout), chapter, and verse. Use a period, not a colon, between the chapter and verse: John 3.16.
Quotation marks should begin and end your quoting of Scripture. The beginning quotation mark means this is where you start copying and then the end quotation mark means this is where you stop copying. A reminder that quotation marks mean you are copying word for word. Do not change anything.
Quickly add a passage to a slide by embedding the reference. Enter your Bible reference surrounded by double brackets (e.g. [[John 3:16]]) in any content item.
There are three strategies you can use to embed quotations: set off quotations, build in quotations, or introduce quotations with a colon. Set-off quotations are set off from the sentence with a comma. Capitalize the first word of the quote. Notice the signal phrases (in bold print) used in the following examples.
(4) Use quotation marks accurately. If youre running a quoted Scripture verse into your text that has a quote within it, you will need to change the double quotes to single quotes, such as, Jesus told him, I am the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6 NLT).
Parenthetical Citations: For your first citation, identify the version which you used. Example: (John 3:16 New Revised Standard Version) As part of a sentence: Example: In a sentence: In Psalm 36:1 (New Jerusalem Bible), David After this, only include the scripture reference, unless you switch versions.
