hello many of my viewers are having issues with peepal graphs and embedded quotations so Im going to clarify that today Farook Syed says hes quoting me in this video here do not write MP paragraphs but sentences which include embedded quotations should this be done for all the questions in the language paper in the reading section and my answer is yes absolutely always do that and and then Shaw court whos been watching this conversation says dont you always have to analyze embedded quotations because my teacher keeps telling me dont rely on embedded quotations rather pick a single quote and analyze it in detail well Im going to show you why Shaw courts teacher is giving him I assume it to him sorry could be a her the wrong advice and thats not to have a go at this teacher because this is the advice that AQA used to give before the current exam write a lot about a little and a lot of us went off and tour our students how to write in detail about their quotations and that actually

There are three strategies you can use to embed quotations: set off quotations, build in quotations, or introduce quotations with a colon. Set-off quotations are set off from the sentence with a comma. Capitalize the first word of the quote. Notice the signal phrases (in bold print) used in the following examples.
Include the author, year of publication, and page number for the reference. If the author and date are introduced in the sentence as a narrative citation, then add the page number in parentheses at the end of the quote. For example, Smith (2019) demonstrated how to (p. 112).
How to quote in an essay? Use a full sentence followed by a colon to introduce a quotation. Begin a sentence with your own words, then complete it with quoted words. Use an introductory phrase naming the source, followed by a comma to quote a critic or researcher.
The quote can be embedded like this: John exhibits his true feelings for Sarah when she finds him waiting at her door with her favorite flowers and a sorrowful expression on his face (Doe 75). This quote would then be followed by more analysis of Johns feelings for Sarah.
When you quote directly from a source, enclose the quoted section in quotation marks. Add an in-text citation at the end of the quote with the author name and page number, like this: Heres a direct quote (Smith 8). Heres a direct quote (Trouble 22).
in-text citations should be included immediately after the quotation marks used in direct quotations or immediately after the use of the source, even if this means including the parenthetical reference in the middle of the sentence.
These words and phrases are directly copied from the original text. You can copy selected words and phrases from an authors work if you put quotation marks around them. These embedded quotations are called evidence because they illustrate or prove a statement you make about the authors writing.
In Harvard style, citations appear in brackets in the text. An in-text citation consists of the last name of the author, the year of publication, and a page number if relevant. Up to three authors are included in Harvard in-text citations. If there are four or more authors, the citation is shortened with et al.
When quotes are used as support in an essay, it is best to create a smooth connection from your idea to the quoted material. The ideas should flow together and be logical. One way to do this is to embed the quote, which places the quote into the context of your own writing.
