Using the geometry package, the options left and right are used for the inside and outside margins respectively.
LaTeXs margins are, by default, 1.5 inches wide on 12pt documents, 1.75 inches wide on 11pt documents, and 1.875 inches wide on 10pt documents. This is the standard for book margins. If you want to change them, you have several options: the geometry package, the fullpage package or changing the margins by hand.
To change a LaTeX page-style parameter, you use the \setlength command in the preamble of your LaTeX source file. For example, if you want the body of the text to be 14 centimeters wide, you type \setlength{\textwidth}{14cm} in the preamble of your LaTeX source file.
For instance, if you want to set a margin to 2cm from each edge of the paper, you can type just \usepackage[margin=2cm]{geometry}. The page layout can be changed in the middle of the document with \newgeometry command.
The environment \begin{flushright} \end{flushright} does the opposite of flushleft , and the text will be aligned with the right-hand margin, and have a ragged left-hand edge. If you are already in an environment you can switch this style of alignment on in a different way using \raggedleft .
On American letter paper (8.5 inch 11 inch) Plain TeXs default settings produce a text block measuring 6.5 inch 8.9 inch with left, right and top margins all equal to 1 inch and a bottom margin approximately equal to 1.1 inch.
To insert a margin note use \marginpar{margin text} . For one-sided layout (simplex), the text will be placed in the right margin, starting from the line where it is defined. For two-sided layout (duplex), it will be placed in the outside margin and for two-column layout it will be placed in the nearest margin.
Changing the global margins to suit the title page can mess up the headers and footers for the rest of the document. A solution is to set the desired global margin and then add \newgeometry{} and \newgeometry{} before and after \begin{titlepage} respectively.
You could either change the value of \textheight, or use the geometry package and change the lengths to whatever you want, or remove if you want the default values.
Borders of the document \usepackage[numbertop,numberright]{eskdplain} \usepackage{graphics} \usepackage{listings} \usepackage[a4paper,vmargin={20mm,20mm},hmargin={20mm,10mm} \maketitle. \tableofcontents. \include{Intro} \include{Chap1}
