BMP - a bitmap file is used for engraving only (such as scanned pictures, photographs etc. DXF - this popular vector file can be used for cutting and engraving. AI - this vector file format can be used for cutting and engraving.

Raster motion (overlapping left-to-right/right-to-left movement of the optics carriage) is used for laser engraving, marking, and photo imaging. Vector motion is used for laser cutting, scoring, and some marking.

Vector engraving is a method of marking or scoring a material surface. Like the laser cutting process, the laser beam will follow the path of vector strokes without cutting all the way through the material. The width of the stroke is made at the kerf of the laser i.e. approx. 0.2mm.
