Amazon has announced the retirement of its proprietary MOBI file format for eBooks, and a transition to the EPUB format for use on Kindle devices and apps. As of August 2022, you will no longer be able to send the MOBI file format to Kindles or the Kindle app using the Send to Kindle service.
How to update your cover Go to your Bookshelf. Next to the book you want to update, click the ellipsis button (). Choose Edit content. Scroll down to the Cover section. Choose Launch Cover Creator or Upload your cover file to update your cover or upload a cover you already have.
After youve imported your ebook, you can right-click on the book from within Calibres library and select Edit metadata and then Edit metadata individually. Within that menu, youll see a Change cover menu with options to download a cover, upload your own, remove the existing cover, and generate an entirely new one.
An EPUB file is the most widely used, and best supported format for an eBook. It plays on virtually all devices, including: Kindle.
After 2022, Amazon not only recommends you use the EPUB format instead, but officially will not allow you to upload MOBI to KDP or sideload MOBI onto your Kindle devices. AZW and its predecessors are essentially the same as MOBI, but with a different name and DRM (Digital Rights Management) scheme.
How to add a cover image to ePub and Kindle eBooks Place the cover picture youd like to use in your library. Click the top half of the Generate help button in the Home ribbon tab. Select the ePub or Mobi/Kindle build youd like to modify in the build list. Click Generate to publish your eBook.
If youre using anything other than a Kindle or the Kindle app, then EPUB is the better format. The only real reason to use MOBI is for compatibility with Amazons e-reader and app, but otherwise it has no advantages over EPUB, which is a widely accepted format that is much easier to work with.
As of June 28, 2021, Amazon will no longer accept the MOBI file format for publications with reflowable layouts. This decision applies to both new releases and file replacements.
What Is The Difference Between EPUB VS Mobi? The main difference between EPUB and MOBI is that EPUB is widely supported across all platforms whilst MOBI is predominantly a Kindle format. The EPUB standard is maintained by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF), a global trade and standards organization.
