hey everyone chris matson here in this video im going to show you how to use a design table to create multiple configurations of a part that youve created in the cad system lets do it the purpose of a design table is to allow us to create multiple configurations of a particular part and so we have to have a part that we start with now we may have designed that part specifically to be used in a design table or it may be a part that we have created in another setting and we want to make variations of it and so we can use the design table for that so here you can see i have my cad model of the shaft this is the same shaft thats used in the guidebook example in figure 5.1 im going to show you how to do this one once we have this generic part this default part were simply going to insert a table design table and we are going to look at the things on the left here these are the options that we have were going to auto create we are going to allow model edits to update the design table

In a drawing of the part or assembly, select a drawing view. Click Insert Tables Design Table. The design table appears, and you can drag it into place on the sheet.

Design Tables allow you to build configurations of parts or assemblies by setting parameters in an embedded Microsoft Excel worksheet. Configurations can represent different versions of a design within a single part file and manage those variations in your part geometry.
To create the design table, we must go to the Insert tab, then Tables, then Design Table. There will be a few choices such as Blank, Auto-create, and From file. In most cases, the Auto-create choice will be used, so that is what we used for this tutorial.
A design table allows you to build multiple configurations of parts or assemblies by specifying parameters in an embedded Microsoft Excel worksheet. The design table is saved in the model document and is not linked to the original Excel file. Changes you make in the model are not reflected in the original Excel file.
Create a table with Table Design Select Create Table Design. In the new table, for the first field, enter a field name and a data type. To set the primary key for the table, select the Field Name cell for the appropriate field and then select Primary Key. Select File Save, and name the table.
