Add or remove items as needed. Log in to your WordPress website. When youre logged in, you will be in your Dashboard. Click on SEO. Click on Search Appearance. Click on the appropriate tab and toggle Show [type] in search results? to add or remove sitemaps. Click Save Changes.
In order to remove a sitemap in the new Search Console you go to the sitemaps menu, then you click on the sitemaps file there, and then click on the dot-dot-dot menu in the top left and select remove sitemap. By doing this Google will stop tracking the sitemap file in Search Console.
On the left-hand side, you will see a menu. In that menu, navigate to the post or page (or other custom post type) youd like to exclude. Expand the Advanced section and change the Allow search engines to show this Post in search results? to No for this post or page.
An XML (Extensible Markup Language) Sitemap is a text file used to detail all URLs on a website. It can include extra information (metadata) on each URL, with details of when they were last updated, how important they are and whether there are any other versions of the URL created in other languages.
If you use contacting someone to get information as an analogy, using URLs is like deciding to use a phone to contact the person, while XML is equivalent to talking to them in English instead of some other language. You cant ignore one to just use the other.
For a single page, you can set it to not be included in the sitemap by going to the edit screen for the page and on the advanced tab of the Yoast metabox setting the value for Allow search engines to show this Post in search results? to No. This will remove the page from the sitemap and set it to noindex.
The url for a particular content item can be excluded from the sitemap by opening the item in edit mode and then by unchecking the Include in sitemap checkbox and then publish the item. After generating the sitemap again the url for this particular content item will not be included in the sitemap.
Next, navigate to the General Sitemap tab. Here, make sure that the Enable Sitemap switch is set to Active. This will disable the default WordPress sitemap.
From the pages and posts, open the post or page you want to remove. Now from the YoastSEO box go to the advanced tab and change the Allow search engines to show this post in search results? from yes to no and update the post or page. Now your post or page wont be displayed in search engines.
How to Fix the Issue Find a . htaccess file inside your directory. You should open the . htaccess file in a text editor and find the lines with Rewrite directives RewriteCond or RewriteRule. If there are any wrong redirects, you should remove them and check if that helped solve the issue on the website.
