Min and Max are two special blend modes you might not have seen much outside of Substance software. In other software Min is called Darken and Max is called Lighten. They are easy to use and can really help you with building heightmaps. Both Min and Max work in a very similar way, by comparing Top and Bottom components to each other. Min stands for Minimum. It picks the lowest value from either the top or the bottom component. That means Mins results are never affected by Low Dynamic Range, you wont see any artifacts. Min is also commutative, making it even easier to use. In masks, Min looks very similar to Multiply, as it can also combine two masks in a simple way. The biggest difference is in the transitions, as Min never actually merges the two components. It only affects the brightest areas, leading to a harsher, sharper look. Keep in mind: depending on the values Min can sometimes completely ignore a component if is too bright. Adjusting the Levels

The Darken mode compares the colors of the blending layer and the base layers, and keeps the darker colors. The Multiply mode multiplies the colors of the blending layer and the base layers, resulting in a darker color. This mode is useful for coloring shadows.

The Passthrough Blend Mode works by blending the current layer with the layers below it, rather than replacing them. This means that any changes made to the current layer will not affect the layers below it, and vice versa.

The Multiply mode simply multiplies each component in the two layers. The Color Burn mode divides the inverted bottom layer by the top layer, and then inverts the result. This darkens the top layer increasing the contrast to reflect the color of the bottom layer. The darker the bottom layer, the more its color is used.
Darken only mode compares each component of each pixel in the upper layer with the corresponding one in the lower layer and uses the smaller value in the resulting image. Completely white layers have no effect on the final image and completely black layers result in a black image.

Multiply: keeps only the darker colors of the blend layer and makes light colors less opaque. The resulting color is always darker, except for where its pure white.
