Hi, I am Greg Hollows. Welcome to the Imaging Lab. In this segment we are going to look at backlights. We are going to look at specifically diffuse types of backlights, like I have here. As you can see this very large area backlight, it is about 4 by 8. And what an area backlight does is allows us to get a silhouetted image, though it is a little tough to see here because we have some front illumination on the lens that we have in front of the light, but what it does is it allows us to create a silhouetted image to look at an object to measure its size or look for defects that might be, if it is a part that is supposed to be stamped or machined that would have some extra pieces hanging onto it that werenamp;#39;t totally cleaned off in the cleaning process, or to do other things where a silhouetted image would give us lots of good information.
