Alkaptonuria is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder where an accumulation of homogentisic acid in the tissues leads to ochronosisa pathological dark pigmentation. It can affect various tissues and the weight bearing joints of the body, leading to degenerative arthropathy.
In left-sided heart failure, the left side of the heart is weakened and results in reduced ability for the heart to pump blood into the body. In right-sided heart failure, the right side of the heart is weakened and results in fluid in your veins, causing swelling in the legs, ankles, and liver.
If an area of your skin is blue (or purple) when youre warm, thats can be a sign your blood isnt getting enough oxygen.
The right side of your heart receives oxygen-poor blood from your veins and pumps it to your lungs, where the blood picks up oxygen and gets rid of carbon dioxide. The left side of your heart receives oxygen-rich blood from your lungs and pumps it through your arteries to the rest of your body.
If CHF patients are bedridden, the edema appears over the sacral area. Edema of venous insufficiency may be associated with hyperpigmentation of the skin due to venous stasis. Ulceration may occur.
How to diagnose right sided heart failure Electrocardiogram (EKG): With the help of EKG, doctors can detect elevated pulmonary artery pressure, valvular heart disease, and other conditions affecting the heart. Echocardiogram: Sound waves help take moving pictures of the heart and identify how its right side is working.
The left ventricle cannot pump blood as it should. This causes blood to build up in the veins of the lungs. The right ventricle cannot pump blood effectively, which leads to a buildup of fluid that causes swelling in the lower body.
Symptoms. Shortness of breath and fatigue are common, early symptoms of left-sided heart failure. Sudden weight gain or swelling, especially in your limbs, are usually early signs of right-sided heart failure.
