Bleed is a slight overlap of the printed area beyond the edge of a printed page that is used to ensure that the printed area extends all the way to the edge of the paper.
Bleed refers to a background color, graphic, or image that extends to the edge of the finished paper size and beyond. Its difficult for printing equipment to apply ink up to the cut edge of a sheet of paper.
Book formatting is a cumbersome process, and bleed is just one important part of the book publishing process. Bleed is a printing term used to describe the part of your document where images or elements go the edge of the page, and extend beyond the trim, leaving no white margin.
Without the bleed, we could end up with a white line on one side of the sticker. Typically we only require a 3mm bleed. In the picture examples here, the pink line indicates the cut line. This is where the stickers will cut out.
To ensure your print job will not have any white lines it is important that you include a bleed when designing. This means that any image or text or background colour that you intent to touch the edge of your page should have a bleed to ensure it goes to the edge of your page when being printed.
Interior bleed also decreases distractions such as white bars on the edges of pages where you dont need them and ink smudges on page edges where text or images were cropped. In a standard book, you will want a bleed of 1/8 of an inch (0.125 inch) at the top, bottom, and outside edges of the pages.
Bleed - full bleed vs no bleed - what is it? Bleed refers to printing that extends to the edge of a sheet or page after printing, or bleeds off the edge of the page. If you do not have a white border on all four sides, then your image has bleed. Bleed is an important factor in any print project.
Most of our products include full-bleed, however some products specify no bleed. This means that print cannot extend to the edge of the paper there will be a border around the edge of the product that cannot be printed. The border for no bleed products is generally at least 0.125 inches.
