Typically, the process uses a motion control system to follow a CNC or G-code of the pattern that is to be cut onto the material. The focused laser beam burns, melts, vaporises or is blown away by a jet of gas to leave a high-quality surface finished edge.
Laser engraving can be removed or reduced in certain cases, depending on the material and depth of the engraving. However, its important to understand that removing laser engraving might not always result in a perfect finish, and sometimes the removal method can result in additional damage to the material.
To remove an engraving, a jeweler has to laser off the metal in the area of the inscription to level out the texture of the metal.
If you want to cut, in the layers menu select Line. Line can either be a line engraving or a cut. If you want an engraved line, test for a low power fast speed. If you want to cut, generally you will need higher power and slower speed.
Print and Cut in LightBurn is used to align your current project to something youve previously output. The most common use for this is, as above, printing a file with a design on it and then using the laser to cut out the design, but it can also be used to align multiple jobs on your laser.
The Cut Settings window in LightBurn is accessed by double-clicking an entry in either the Cuts / Layers window or the Material Library list.
Youll be relieved to know that yes it is possible to remove laser engraving from stainless steel and other metals including gold, platinum, sterling silver and softer metals such as nickel, brass, copper and aluminium.
To use the Cut Shapes tool, select the shapes you wish to cut, then add the cutting tool shape to your selection (the last shape selected is the cutting tool). In the Tools menu, select Cut Shapes and the software will perform the cut.
