Name-dropping can open doors on your job search. After all, its one way to instantly have something in common with a person youve never met. Its like a de facto reference that you can use to establish your credibility long before you get to that stage.
Yes, resumes and CVs allow for flexibility. So you are permitted to shorten your name or even use a nickname you go by. But on job applications, you should use your full legal name. But with cover letters and resumes and CVs, you dont have to use your full name unless you choose to.
Using your preferred name in a rsum is acceptable because it Is not a legal document. An example of how to present this is by listing a first initial while having the preferred name following (e.g. K. Lee Smith). Another way to present your preferred name is in quotes such as: Keith Lee Smith.
Always put your full name (first and last) at the top of each page of your resume. You can use your given name (Joseph), or a preferred name (Joe). You can also include your middle name or initial if you prefer. However, we recommend that you dont use a nickname that may appear unprofessional, such as Bubba or Ace.
For example, if your name is Jonathan Smith Jr., you can write John Smith as your name. Similarly, if people refer to you by your middle name, you can simply include that as your first name.
The best way to set your resume apart is to include both your first and last names when naming your resume file. For example, instead of writing, Resume. pdf, write, JohnSmithResume.
Make your resume laser-focused and targeted to the specific job and company youre applying to! Cut: Information That Doesnt Have Anything To Do With The Job Description Youre Responding To. Cut: An Objective Statement That Isnt Customized To The Job. Cut: Old Or Irrelevant Job History. Cut: Redundancy.
Include only your legal name, of course that may be your middle name with a first initial, which is completely acceptable as long as that is your business name. 2. Avoid trying to sound impressive by using a lot of fancy words. This is particularly if you dont really know what the big words mean.
