Bleed is the image or artwork extending beyond where the document will be trimmed. Its probably best explained visually. The thin lines are trim marks and tell us where to cut your document and the image extended past these lines is called bleed. 3mm bleed is usual for most print documents.
Bleeds: Artwork extends to the red dotted line for proper bleed. Safety: Text is inside the blue dotted line to prevent information from getting cut off. Bleeds are required in all artwork with an image extending to one of the borders. Add an eighth of an inch (0.125) to each side to allow for cutting.
Crop marks, also known as trim marks, are lines printed in the corners of your publications sheet or sheets of paper to show the printer where to trim the paper. They are used by commercial printers for creating bleeds where an image or color on the page needs to extend all the way to the edge of the paper.
Bleed refers to an extra 1/8 (. 125 in) of image or background color that extends beyond the trim area of your printing piece. The project is printed on an oversized sheet that is then cut down to size with the appearance that the image is bleeding off the edge of the paper.
They are two small lines, one vertical and one horizontal, at each corner of the file. They are not visible when you are designing your printing file, but if you add them, they appear when you save the file as a PDF.
Under Printer, click the arrow next to the printer, and click Advanced Output Settings. On the Marks and Bleeds tab, under Printers marks, select the Crop marks box, and click OK. Make sure the crop marks are where you want them, and click Print.
Bleed The bleed is the area that all artwork must extend to in order to ensure there are no blank (or white) spaces left over after cutting the business card. Cut Line The cut line (aka trim line) is the line where the business card printer targets the cut.
Go to File, then click Print, followed by Advanced Output Settings. Under Printers Marks, select Marks and Bleeds, then select the Crop marks box.
