Wedding invitations do not require punctuation at the end of a line; however, commas should still be used within lines to separate the day of the week from the day of the month. In addresses, commas should still be used to separate the city from the state.
If someone asks you to RSVP (sometimes also written as R.S.V.P.) it means that you should respond if you plan to attend. This helps a host or organizer plan the event by knowing how much food to order, etc. If you can no longer attend, it is polite to let the host or event organizer know your change of plans.
RSVP, R.S.V.P., r.s.v.p., and R.s.v.p. are all acceptable ways to write the abbreviation, ing to etiquette experts at the Emily Post Institute. But both the Oxford English Dictionary and the AP Stylebook write the initialism without periods, as RSVP.
I got a party invitation in the mail, and I called to RSVP. RSVP by October 9 . The first 200 students who RSVPed to the invitation got in. He failed to RSVP to the invitation, so there was no name tag waiting for him.
Assuming youve sent your invitations out in time (at least six to eight weeks before your wedding), give your guests four or five weeks to RSVP. This is plenty of time for people to figure out if they want/are able to attend your wedding, as well as to figure out any necessary travel arrangements.
Respondez sil vous plait may be written as R.s.v.p. with a capital R and a lowercase s.v.p. The other form is R.S.V.P. in capital letters. The preferred form, and the one I use, is R.s.v.p. It is what Mummy taught me. The favour of reply is requested is another proper acknowledgment request.
Dont forget an RSVP by date on your RSVP cardsthis one is a biggie. Give your guests three to four weeks to let you know if theyll be attending. The RSVP date should be at least two weeks before your wedding so you can give your caterer a more accurate headcount. And, of course, let guests know how to RSVP.
Ideally, the RSVP date should fall three to four weeks before the wedding, and the wedding invitation should be mailed six to eight weeks prior to the wedding.
RSVP is an initialism derived from the French phrase Rpondez sil vous plat, literally meaning Respond, if you please, or just Please respond, to require confirmation of an invitation.
RSVPs should be due two months before the wedding, and the wedding invitations should be sent out approximately four months before the wedding. This will give guests ample time to make travel plans if they didnt when they first received your save-the-date.
