For those looking for a more discreet option, the wrist, ankle or behind the ear are good choices. These areas are smaller and offer a more subtle way to express yourself with ink. Fingers are also a popular place for tattoos, especially for small, minimalist designs.
Faded tattoos are easier to cover-up because the ink has had some time to dissipate, leaving the artist with something closer to a blank canvas. Dimmer tattoos wont require as many laser tattoo removal sessions before getting covered up.
Lighter, faded tattoos are generally easier to cover than darker ones. The cover up artist will need to consider the existing colors and determine if they will be visible through the new tattoo. Furthermore, having multiple colors in the original piece can make covering it more challenging.
Outer wrist tattoos will hurt less than inner wrist tattoos, where there are a lot of nerve endings and the skin is particularly thin. Wrist tattoos done closer to the forearm will be less painful than pieces done closer to the wrist bones. The smaller the design, the less your wrist tattoo will likely hurt.
A common choice for cover-up is the blackout tattoo, essentially shrouding it within large sections of dark ink. While faded or light tattoos are the easiest to cover, they can only be masked using the same pigment, or one that is darker.
Applying cover-up makeup or a bandage over the area is another viable option to conceal a wrist tattoo.
