There are no restrictions on what characters you can use in a CSV file. The limitation is the way the file is encoded. Here is an article on choosing the right encoding, UTF-8 is the recommended encoding for the file because it supports almost every possible character.
Method 1 On a Windows computer, open the CSV file using Notepad. Click File Save As. In the dialog window that appears - select ANSI from the Encoding field. Then click Save. Thats all! Open this new CSV file using Excel - your non-English characters should be displayed properly.
CSV character escaper: backslash \ The backslash is used to escape special characters in a CSV file. Example for any special character: if the CSV file is stored as Google Sheets: company\Subsidiary\ if the CSV file is stored as CSV: company\\Subsidiary\\
To preserve all the digits in text-formatted numbers, you have to import the downloaded CSV file as raw data into a new Excel spreadsheet, set the column datatypes as needed, and then save the new file as an Excel workbook. Excel (XLSX) files will preserve these formats, CSV files wont.
To do this: Open the . csv file in Notepad. In the File menu, click Save As. In the new window that displays, select ANSI for Encoding. Click Save. Open the file in Microsoft Excel. The characters should now display correctly.
Learn how to preserve formatting for numerical values in CSV files. Open a blank Excel document. Navigate to the Data tab Click Get Data (Power Query) Click Text/CSV. Click Browse select the CSV file you exported from ApprentiScope. Click Next. Set Data type detection to Do not detect data types. Click Load. Be amazed!
Using a spreadsheet application like Excel, Google Sheets, or OpenOffice Calc is the easiest way to make CSV files. If you cant use any of those programs, you can use a text editor like Notepad or TextEdit. In a spreadsheet program, go to File Save As File Type CSV.
Do this when you are saving/naming your CSV file by navigating to Tools and then Web options. Choose the encoding tab and then from the dropdown, select UTF-8. If you take care to encode your file correctly, you shouldnt run into any bumps in the road when dealing with special characters within your data.
