The 5E lesson plan is based on an instructional model that consists of five phases or steps: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate.
The five stepped system of lesson planning was started by J. Friedrich Herbert, a German psychologist. His five-stage system of lesson planning involves five discrete steps including preparation, presentation, association, generalization, and application.
The title should give a clear idea of what the lesson will cover. It should be relevant to the subject matter and objectives of the lesson.
The five steps involved are the Anticipatory Set, Introduction of New Material, Guided Practice, Independent Practice and Closure.
In this activity, the participants are invited to share the story of their own name, its history and its meaning. The students learn more about each other, they learn to value each others background and they reflect on the connection between name, identity and cultural background.
A lesson plan traditionally includes details of the lesson, the learning outcomes to be covered, the methodology that will be used, the resources/ materials required, and the activities that will be carried out both to engage and assess the learners.
A successful lesson plan addresses and integrates these three key components: Objectives for student learning. Teaching/learning activities. Strategies to check student understanding.
These phases include Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate.
