In the video tutorial, the focus is on transforming quotes into customers by providing honest, quick, and accurate estimates. This practice helps maintain profit margins and reduces misquoting. It enhances the customer's experience, as quotes remain open until moved to a job or canceled, eliminating the need for immediate follow-ups. By giving clients the impression that their interests are prioritized, businesses can effectively earn their loyalty—something that's increasingly rare. Ultimately, a combination of timely quotes, fair pricing, and strong follow-up skills is vital for driving sales, encouraging a shift from a screen printer mindset to a business-focused approach.

Profit margins in the printing industry are very marginal, ranging between 2% to 10% net profit (before tax). The COVID-19 pandemic caused typical margins drop between -5% and 5%. Companies that offer less available or niche products and services typically have greater margins, as high as 20%.
Industry studies have continuously shown the average print companys net profit is between 1-3%.
A useful screen printing industry standard is to markup items by at least 50% of your cost. If your garment costs $1.00, you would simply divide by 0.50 to calculate your margin goal of 50%.
As an example, the average printer tends to mark up jobs costing $250 or less, between 75-85%. That means the gross profit on these smaller jobs is in the 43-45% range. As noted earlier, the industry-wide gross profit for all jobs averages 71%. How does the average printer handle larger jobs that are brokered?
Depending on the situation, most businesses want to aim for 20% to 45% profit. In some shops, the set-up simply wont allow for a 45% margin due to high production time, material costs, or overly competitive local pricing.

If you go back to our How Screen Printing Works section, you know we need to create a screen for each color in the design. A screen can be $20 to $30. Those screens get reused so its not as if we expect the customer to bear the full cost, but its still part of our overhead. Another concern is labor.
Screen printing is ideal for simpler artwork with 1-3 ink colors or large quantity orders. This method typically has higher bulk discounts than heat press transfers. Therefore, screen printing is the more cost-efficient option for high quantities.
