Clear-History deletes the command history from a PowerShell session. Each PowerShell session has its own command history. To display the command history, use the Get-History cmdlet. By default, Clear-History deletes the entire command history from a PowerShell session.
How do I clear Command Prompt history in Windows? Your command history clears every time you close the Command Prompt. Close the window manually or use the Alt+F4 keyboard shortcut.
To access previous commands, simply press the up arrow. This will give you the last command you typed in. Pressing it again will produce the command before that, and so on. You can also press the down arrow key to find more recent commands if you have gone too far back in the command history.
Like the Command Prompt, Alt+F7 also works will if you want to clear the current session history. Unlike the Command Prompt, we discussed where your PowerShell history is saved. If youd like to clear that text file, type in Remove-Item (Get-PSReadlineOption). HistorySavePath.
Hitting the up arrow key is a nice way to recall previously-used commands, but it can get tedious if you are trying to recall a command you entered a while ago -- hitting the same key 30 times is a good way to make yourself feel like an automaton.
In the PowerShell console, you can use the following shortcuts to manage the command history. UpArrow - Displays the previous command. DownArrow - Displays the next command. F7 - Displays the command history. ESC - To hide the history. F8 - Finds a command. F9 - Find a command by history ID.
By default, Get-History gets the most recent commands. This command can be abbreviated to h -c 1 and is equivalent to pressing the up-arrow key.
You may enter this sequence : Alt + Space , E , L . From now on, and until you press Esc or Enter , the arrow and the paging keys will scroll the screen buffer.
