Comparing strings in Excel can be done with a simple function. The =EXACT(A1,B1) function will return TRUE if the two cells contain the same text string.
You can use the IF Function to compare two lists in Excel for matches in the same row. If Function will return the value TRUE if the values match and FALSE if they dont. You can even add custom text to display the word Match when a criterion is met and Not a Match when its not met.
Find cells that contain text Select the range of cells that you want to search. On the Home tab, in the Editing group, click Find Select, and then click Find. In the Find what box, enter the textor numbersthat you need to find.
To compare two strings, you can simply use the formula IF(A2=B2, Equal, Error) and drag it to the rest of the cells, provided you dont care about the cases. If necessary, you can later filter similar strings and delete them.
How to compare two strings for similarity or highlight differences in Excel? Select a blank cell C2, enter formula =EXACT(A2, B2) into the Formula Bar, and then press the Enter key. Note: In the formula, A2 and B2 are the cells containing the comparing strings.
