This summer, children in the Rio Grande Valley participated in a UTRGV chess camp, where they learned and improved their skills. Two participants were the sons of a parent who signed them up, excited about the opportunity to learn from grandmasters, including UTRGV's chess program manager Alex Mistah. Eighteen students attended the camp, engaging in tournaments, solving puzzles, and more. Assistance came from fellow grandmaster Vladimir Bellows, part of the UTRGV national collegiate chess championship team. The experience aims to foster growth and strength in young players, highlighting that many current team members started with similar camps.
