A power of attorney allows someone to make decisions on your behalf, either when you are mentally incompetent or even while you are competent. There are two types discussed: financial power of attorney, which allows for financial and legal decisions, and health care power of attorney, which permits personal and healthcare decisions. To revoke a previously granted power of attorney, one option is to create a new power of attorney that explicitly cancels the prior one.
