There are three standard resume formats: reverse-chronological, functional, and combination (hybrid). The reverse-chronological format is the best resume format and will work for all candidates. We highly recommend it.
1. Reverse-Chronological Resumes. The most widely used resume format among job seekers today, reverse-chronological resumes are also probably the easiest for recruiters and hiring managers to understand at a glancewhich is itself an advantage.
The best way to show youre flexible is to write varied accomplishments (i.e. which shows you dipped your feet in a lot of different things), and through listing different job titles (i.e. through a promotion, which shows you had varied leadership responsibilities too).
For the majority of job-seekers, the best resume format in 2023 is the reverse-chronological resume format. This resume format involves listing your resume information (e.g. your work experience and your education) starting with the most recent one and going backward through relevant jobs, degrees, or qualifications.
Avoid special characters While special characters may look fancy, theyre impractical for a resume.
Chronological Resume This is the most common type of resume format and is generally preferred by most hiring managers.
This is how your resume should look: Good font. Use an easy-to-read typeface. Evenly-set margins. Resume margins on all four sides should be 1-inch. Consistent line spacing. Go for single or 1.15 line spacing for all resume sections. Clear section headings. Enough white space. No graphics, no photos. Ideally one-page.
A list of references. While adding references to your resumes is okay, its better to put them on a separate page. Unless the recruiter specifically requested it, dont. Also, remove the References: Available Upon Request line from your resume because its understood that you will.
