Log retention By default, logs are kept indefinitely and never expire. You can adjust the retention policy for each log group, keeping the indefinite retention, or choosing a retention period between 10 years and one day. Archive log data You can use CloudWatch Logs to store your log data in highly durable storage.
Diagnostic logs provide insights on the operations that were performed within a resource. With Microsoft Azures diagnostic logs, you can export basic usage metrics from content delivery network (CDN) endpoints to a variety of sources.
For a Basic Logs table, the value is always 8. The tables total data retention including long-term retention. This value can be between 4 and 730; or 1095, 1460, 1826, 2191, 2556, 2922, 3288, 3653, 4018, or 4383. Set this property to null if you dont want long-term retention.
From the Log Analytics workspaces menu, select Tables. Select Create and then New custom log (DCR-based). Specify a name and, optionally, a description for the table. You dont need to add the CL suffix to the custom tables name - this is added automatically to the name you specify in the portal.
A log retention period is the amount of time you keep logs. For example, you may keep audit logs and firewall logs for two months. However, if your organization must follow strict laws and regulations, you may keep the most critical logs anywhere between six months and seven years.
A table in a Log Analytics workspace only supports up to 500 columns (referred to as a field in this article).
Event log retention The Windows default settings have log sizes set to a relatively small size and will overwrite events as the log docHubes its maximum size. This introduces risk as important events could be quickly overwritten.
Soo basicly the basic logs are type of logs for reduced cost Ingestion. They contain basic reduced information. They can be used in threat hunting because they offer basic query cababilities (dont expect much in threat hunting) and they cant be used for security alerts.
