GIF files start with a fixed-length header (GIF87a or GIF89a) giving the version, followed by a fixed-length Logical Screen Descriptor giving the pixel dimensions and other characteristics of the logical screen.
GIMP is a mind blowing web based tool that enables you to remove the watermark from the GIFs. GIMP is easily one of the best ways to remove watermark from GIF free online. With eliminating watermarks from GIFs like stamping, and cropping, GIMP is also capable of performing multiple other editing operations on the GIFS.
Header Block The first three bytes are called the signature. These should always be GIF (ie 47=G, 49=I, 46=F). The next three specify the version of the specification that was used to encode the image.
A GIF file starts with a header with a fixed length for example, GIF87a or GIF89a. It provides the file version and logical screen descriptor (also with a fixed length) specifying logical screen dimensions in pixels and additional characteristics.
GIF file consists of Header, Global screen descriptor, and Global color table blocks at the beginning of the file. This is followed by a variable number of image blocks containing compressed image data and ends with the trailer block.
The first 3 bytes of the GIF file are always the hexadecimal string 0x47 0x49 0x46 which is the string GIF in ASCII characters. Bytes 4-6 are either the hex string 0x38 0x37 0x61 or 0x38 0x39 0x61, which is either 87a or 89a in ASCII, depending on the version of encoding used.
But what does GIF mean, and how do these files work? GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. GIF is a raster file format designed for relatively basic images that appear mainly on the internet. Each file can support up to 8 bits per pixel and can contain 256 indexed colors.
