Kenneth Kenny David Kane (also known as Killer Kane) is the main antagonist of the book. He is Maxs selfish and sociopathic father.
Freak the Mighty was written by Rodman Philbrick and published in 1993. This novel is centered around two boys named Max Kane and Kevin Avery (also known as Freak) who form a strong friendship. This friendship has a positive impact on both boys lives.
Kevin, whom Max refers to as Freak, is extremely intelligent and has a quick and sarcastic wit. He also has a condition called Morquio syndrome that affects his growth and mobility. He is very small for his age, wears leg braces, and uses crutches to get around. Freak doesnt have any friends before he meets Max.
The primary characters are friends Maxwell Kane, a large, developmentally disabled, but kind-hearted boy, and Kevin Avery, nicknamed Freak, who is physically disabled but very intelligent.
Elton Pinneman (called Grim by Maxwell Kane) is the grandfather of Max, father of Maxs mother, Annie Kane.
Max is large, slow, and lacks self-confidence, he is also loyal and kind-hearted towards people he cares for. Furthermore, Kevin is fragile, physically handicapped, but exceedingly intelligent. Max rarely pays attention in school and does not care about education.
Due to a condition called Morquio syndrome, Kevins body is small and twisted, and he requires braces and crutches to get around. Kevin lives with his single mom because his dad did not want to deal with his disability. Max gives Kevin the nickname Freak because of the mismatch between his mind and his body.
Kevin Freak Dillon is the titular deuteragonist of the novel Freak the Mighty and is mentioned many times in the sequel Max the Mighty. He was played by Kieran Culkin in the 1998 film adaptation, The Mighty.
