You may faint because of: Certain medications that treat high blood pressure, such as diuretics (water pills), calcium channel blockers and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.
A blackout is a temporary loss of consciousness. Blackouts can be caused by fainting, low blood pressure, or something more serious. If you have a blackout, its best to see your doctor.
Excessive alcohol use, stress, medication, and epilepsy can all cause blackouts. While blackouts are a frightening experience, treatment can allow people to lead a normal life without the fear of falling unconscious or losing their memory.
The most common cause of blacking out is fainting. Other causes include epileptic seizures, syncope due to anxiety (psychogenic pseudosyncope) and other rare causes of faints. Other causes of blacking out may be due to low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) and lack of oxygen (hypoxia) from a variety of causes.
Benzodiazepines (such as flunitrazepam, midazolam, and temazepam), barbiturates (such as phenobarbital), and other drugs which also act as GABAA agonists, are known to cause blackouts as a result of high dose use.
These reasons include: Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIAs) Mini strokes caused by small blood clots. Seizures Any form of epilepsy in which the electric current in the brain is disrupted. Normal pressure hydrocephalus a brain disorder in which abnormal levels of fluid in the brain.
Blackouts can be caused by fainting, low blood pressure, or something more serious. If you have a blackout, its best to see your doctor.
A blackout ends when your body finally absorbs the alcohol and your brain can make memories again. Sleep helps end blackouts because rest gives the body time to process the alcohol. Others, though, can digest liquor while still awake. That means a blackout could last minutes to even days.
