The main advantage of shooting in RAW is that you end up with high-quality files to edit into the best possible image. Capturing and storing all the details that pass through your cameras sensors means RAW files contain a wider dynamic range and far greater color spectrum than JPEGs.
RAW images require a little more work to edit, and they take up more space. But as a result you get much more sensor data to work with, which results in more control over factors like dynamic range, colors, and noise. The result is a shockingly detailed, totally customizable, super-high-quality picture.
ProRAW gives you finer control over sharpening, white balance and highlights. The biggest difference you can see in favor of ProRAW is in the extreme dynamic range test shot (the one shot directly at the sun) - the information and detail in the shadows is clearly superior.
RAW Photos on Android To shoot in RAW on your Android phone, it needs to support an Android operating system called the Camera2 API. This must be implemented by the devices manufacturer and cannot be added via an app. So if your phone doesnt support it, then RAW shooting is not available.

Even though you can enable it in the device settings, shooting every image in ProRAW will take up a ton of gigs on your device, so make sure to only use it if you intend on editing it right after. Otherwise, kiss that storage space goodbye, even if you have 1TB! Updated May 2022: Updated with iPhone 13 Pro devices.
ProRAW gives you greater creative control when editing photos. Apple ProRAW combines the information of a standard RAW format along with iPhone image processing, which gives you more flexibility when editing the exposure, color, and white balance in your photo.

Generally, shooting RAW will result in a much better final image as the RAW format contains much more image data - just as the camera sees it.
RAW files have more data than JPEGs, so if your image ends up underexposed or overexposed, theres more room to correct things. If youre shooting in tricky lighting situationslike directly into the sun, before sunrise, or when theres a lot of contrast, shooting RAW can make it easier to make adjustments.
