Raster images, such as JPEG or TIFF, can only be attached to an AutoCAD drawing similarly to an external reference (Xref). They cannot be bound in a drawing.
In AutoCAD use Paste Special (PASTESPEC command, or pick it from the Edit menu) and select "Picture (Metafile)". This creates a static, "embedded" OLE object that becomes part of the drawing file (rather than an xref). You can resize it with grips or Properties.
Raster images, such as JPEG or TIFF, can only be attached to an AutoCAD drawing similarly to an external reference (Xref). They cannot be bound in a drawing.
In AutoCAD, click Edit menu > Paste Special. Select the options Paste and Picture (Metafile) in the Paste Special box. Click OK. Place the image in the drawing.
Bind: Keeps the original layer properties, any colors, and block properties of the reference drawing the same in the host drawing. Insert: Overrides any properties of the reference drawing. This way, all the properties are uniform in the reference and the host drawing.
Known causes include: XREF is unloaded, orphaned, or is otherwise missing. XREF is part of a circular reference. XREF is attached more than once.
Bind converts the objects in the xref into a block reference. Named object definitions are added to the current drawing with a prefix of blockname $n$, where n is a number starting at 0. Insert also converts the objects in the xref into a block reference.
Type xref and then press Enter. On the status bar, click Manage Xrefs, which displays when external references are linked to the drawing. 2 Select the external reference to bind. 3 Click Bind.
To Bind an Xref to the Current Drawing Click Insert tab Reference panel Dialog box launcher. Find. In the External References palette, select the reference name that you want to bind. Right-click, and click Bind. In the Bind Xrefs dialog box, select one of the following options: ... Click OK to close each dialog box.
To embed the drawing, right click on the image file, choose Open with MS Paint or similar application. Within the graphics application select the entire image (CTRL+A) and copy to clipboard (Ctrl+C). Switch to AutoCAD and paste the image (Ctrl+V) into the AutoCAD drawing.
