In this lecture, the presenter discusses the process of changing the EC2 instance type, which is a common operation for scaling up. This operation is only applicable to EBS-backed instances. The steps involved include stopping the instance, changing the instance type in the settings, and restarting the instance to ensure data integrity. The presenter demonstrates the process by creating a file on the EC2 instance and checking the memory size before and after resizing.
