To extract I-frames, we can run the following command: ffmpeg -skip_frame nokey -i test.mp4 -vsync vfr -frame_pts true out-%02d.jpeg. ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -vf "select='eq(pict_type,I)'" -vsync vfr out-%02d.jpeg. ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vf "select='gt(scene,0.4)'" -vsync vfr frame-%2d.jpg.
We typically recommend a keyframe interval of 2 seconds. IMPORTANT!! Please note that if you set the keyframe interval to 0 seconds in OBS Studio, this does not mean 0 seconds, it will instead instruct OBS to change the keyframe interval to “AUTO”. A Setting of 0 or AUTO is around 8 seconds.
We recommend using three B-frames per GOP for devices that support B- frames. For videos that contain animated material, you can safely use a higher number of B-frames per GOP.
View Keyframes Select a clip in the Timeline panel. Click on the Effects Controls panel. If necessary, click the Show/Hide Timeline View button in the Effect Controls panel to show the effects timeline.
While H. 264 can support any number of reference frames, we recommend using between three and five (three to five reference frames can be used by a P-frame) for optimal performance across devices.
An I‑frame (Intra-coded picture) is a complete image, like a JPG or BMP image file. A P‑frame (Predicted picture) holds only the changes in the image from the previous frame. For example, in a scene where a car moves across a stationary background, only the car's movements need to be encoded.

IDR frames are a special I-frame in H. 264 that specifies no frame after the IDR frame can reference any frame before the IDR frame.

Also know as predictive frames or predicted frames, the p-frame follows another frame and only contain part of the image in a video. It is classified as a delta frame for this reason. P-frames look backwards to a previous p-frame or keyframe (i-frame) for redundancies.
