How do I extract key frames from a video?

To extract I-frames, we can run the following command: ffmpeg -skip_frame nokey -i test.mp4 -vsync vfr -frame_pts true out-%02d.jpeg. ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -vf "select='eq(pict_type,I)'" -vsync vfr out-%02d.jpeg. ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vf "select='gt(scene,0.4)'" -vsync vfr frame-%2d.jpg.

What is a good keyframe interval?

We typically recommend a keyframe interval of 2 seconds. IMPORTANT!! Please note that if you set the keyframe interval to 0 seconds in OBS Studio, this does not mean 0 seconds, it will instead instruct OBS to change the keyframe interval to “AUTO”. A Setting of 0 or AUTO is around 8 seconds.

How many B frames should I use?

We recommend using three B-frames per GOP for devices that support B- frames. For videos that contain animated material, you can safely use a higher number of B-frames per GOP.

How do I show keyframes in clip?

View Keyframes Select a clip in the Timeline panel. Click on the Effects Controls panel. If necessary, click the Show/Hide Timeline View button in the Effect Controls panel to show the effects timeline.

How many reference frames should I use?

While H. 264 can support any number of reference frames, we recommend using between three and five (three to five reference frames can be used by a P-frame) for optimal performance across devices.
