Symptoms of heart failure include: Shortness of breath. Feeling tired (fatigue) and having leg weakness when youre active. Swelling in your ankles, legs and abdomen. Weight gain. Need to urinate while resting at night. Rapid or irregular heartbeats (palpitations). A dry, hacking cough.
Tests needed to assess CCF include x rays, echocardiography, ECG, coronary angiography and others. Treatment for CCF includes treatment of the underlying cause of CCF, as well as the symptoms. This can include any of the treatments in this list: medicines.
What are the different types of heart failure? Left-sided heart failure. Left-sided heart failure is the most common type of heart failure. Right-sided heart failure. The right heart ventricle is responsible for pumping blood to your lungs to collect oxygen. Diastolic heart failure. Systolic heart failure.
Doctors usually treat heart failure with a combination of medications. Depending on your symptoms, you might take one or more medications, including: Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. These drugs relax blood vessels to lower blood pressure, improve blood flow and decrease the strain on the heart.
These are assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Check for calf tenderness, diminished pedal pulses, swelling, local redness, or pallor of extremity, dependent edema. Assess for edema: measure abdominal girth, distended neck and peripheral vessels. Record weight daily. Recommend: changing position frequently; elevating feet when sitting.
CHF can lead to pulmonary edema very quickly so be prepared to act quickly. Baseline vital signs are important here as well as for our other assessments, including an apical pulse; history is also important. Assess heart rhythm, and strength of the heartbeat. Assess pulses, skin color, tugor and blanching.
You will need to learn to watch for changes in your heart rate, pulse, blood pressure, and weight. You will also need to limit salt in your diet, stop drinking alcohol, quit smoking if you need to, exercise, lose weight if you need to, and get enough rest.
