With the selection active, click the Add layer mask button in the Layers panel. On the layer mask, there is white where there was a selection (the subject) and black where there was no selection (the background). The black hides the area that was not selected.
You can create a layer mask from a selection by selecting the layer you want to mask, then going to Layer Layer Mask Reveal Selection or Hide Selection in the Photoshop menu. This will create a layer mask based on your selection, allowing you to hide or reveal parts of the image within the selected area.
To create a mask that reveals the entire layer, click the Add Layer Mask button in the Layers panel, or choose Layer Layer Mask Reveal All.

To Hide Layer Effects on all Layers Control -click (Mac) | Right -click (Win) the fx icon on the layer with the Layer Effect (in the Layers panel) and choose Hide All Effects.
Add layer masks to block out any parts of the secondary photo you dont want to be blended. Click on its layer in the Layers panel, followed by the camera icon in the bottom toolbar and finally Add Layer Mask.
To create a Quick Mask, you can press the Q key. To create vector masks, you can press Command + Click the Add Layer mask button at the bottom of the layer palette. Active paths will then create masks.
In the Layers panel, just click on the little Eye icon to the left of the layers thumbnail and it hides that layer from view. To see it again, click where the Eye icon used to be. To see just one particular layer (and hide all the rest), press-and-hold the Option (PC: Alt) key, and then click on the layers Eye icon.
